A large archive of Valve development content, estimated at roughly 12 to 13 terabytes, has leaked online, according to reports from TechPowerUp and Tom's Hardware. The material was drawn from the company's older Steam content servers and covers internal builds dating from 2003 to 2013.
According to Tom's Hardware, the exposure did not result from a hack or security breach. Instead, the outlet reported that Valve left an endpoint tied to its legacy infrastructure publicly accessible, allowing archivists to extract the data. The files remain under examination and reportedly include both Valve's own projects and third-party releases.
The archive spans the period when Valve moved from its older Steam2 distribution system, which used proprietary NCF (No-Cache File) and GCF (Grid Cache File) formats, to a standard HTTP file-tree approach around March 2013, when it transitioned to SteamPipe. Because of that timing, the dump functions as a snapshot of the games before later changes.
