Apple Lifts iPhone Prices as DRAM Shortage Squeezes the Industry
Apple raised prices across almost its entire iPhone range at the iPhone 18 Pro launch, citing memory cost pressure tied to an AI-driven DRAM shortage.

Apple increased prices across nearly its entire iPhone lineup at its September 9 launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, according to TechPowerUp.
The iPhone 18 Pro now starts at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, each $100 higher than the iPhone 17 Pro models they replace. Both earlier Pro devices have been discontinued.
Apple also added $100 to the phones it kept in the range. TechPowerUp reported that the iPhone 16 now starts at $799, the iPhone 17e at $699, the iPhone 17 at $899, and the iPhone Air at $1,099. None of these carried-over models received hardware changes alongside the higher prices.
The increases coincide with an industry-wide shortage of DRAM, which TechPowerUp attributes largely to demand from AI data centers absorbing memory supply. Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously likened the situation to a hundred-year flood and said the company can no longer absorb rising memory and storage costs as it had before.
