
CaixaBank Turns Old Bank Cards Into Village Benches in Recycling Push

CaixaBank has launched a recycling initiative that converts discarded bank cards into public seating, according to Finextra Research. The benches are set to be installed in villages that the lender reaches through its mobile branch service.
A New Life for Plastic Payment Cards
The project addresses a persistent challenge in the payments industry: what to do with the large volume of plastic cards that expire or fall out of use each year. Rather than sending them to landfill, CaixaBank is repurposing the material into durable outdoor furniture. Finextra reported that the benches will be positioned in the same rural communities the bank services via its mobile branches, tying the sustainability effort directly to the institution's physical footprint.
