Decade-Old Bitcoin Wallets Move $40 Million as Dormant Activity Slows
Galaxy Research data shows six long-dormant Bitcoin wallets shifting $40 million this month, even as overall movement of aged coins runs at multi-year lows.

Six Bitcoin wallets that had sat untouched for a decade moved a combined $40 million this month, according to data from Galaxy Research cited by Decrypt and CoinDesk. The transfers occurred over a single 10-day stretch involving coins that had not moved in more than 10 years.
Decrypt reported that such ancient coins have been reactivating during 2026 at a pace it described as rarely seen, framing the recent transfers as part of a broader uptick in older wallets coming back to life.
CoinDesk, drawing on the same Galaxy figures, presented a different overall picture. It reported that dormant-coin activity is at its lowest level since 2022, and that 2026 is on track to record under half the total seen in the previous year. According to CoinDesk, most of the coins involved in the recent movements avoided exchanges, suggesting the holders did not immediately route them toward trading venues.
