Decade-Old Bitcoin Wallets Stir in 2026, But Dormant Activity Stays Low
Six ancient Bitcoin wallets moved $40 million this month, yet Galaxy Research data shows overall dormant coin movement is running at its slowest since 2022.

Bitcoin holdings that had sat untouched for more than a decade began moving again this month, according to data from Galaxy Research cited by both Decrypt and CoinDesk.
Six wallets, each dormant for roughly ten years or longer, shifted a combined $40 million worth of coins over a single 10-day period, the reports said. Decrypt described the pace of these older coins reactivating in 2026 as unusually fast compared with historical norms.
Despite that cluster of transfers, the broader picture points in the opposite direction. According to CoinDesk, Galaxy's figures show that overall dormant-coin activity has fallen to its lowest level since 2022. The outlet reported that 2026 is on track to record less than half the volume of reactivated long-held coins seen the previous year.
