
ETH Zurich Spinout ZuriQ Raises $25.5M for 2D Trapped-Ion Quantum Chips
Swiss quantum computing startup ZuriQ has closed a $25.5 million seed round led by Quantonation to advance its trapped-ion processors built on a two-dimensional architecture.

Swiss quantum computing startup ZuriQ has secured $25.5 million in seed funding to speed up work on its trapped-ion quantum processors, according to Sifted and Tech.eu.
The round was led by Quantonation, with backing from Forward.one, Extantia, Firgun Ventures and returning investors. The financing follows a $4.2 million pre-seed round the company raised in 2025.
A spin-out from ETH Zürich, ZuriQ is building trapped-ion processors intended to address the scaling constraints of standard designs. Whereas most trapped-ion machines depend on one-dimensional ion chains linked by intricate junctions, ZuriQ uses a native two-dimensional layout based on Penning micro-traps. By substituting a static magnetic field for the oscillating electric fields found in conventional setups, the company says its approach lets ions move across the chip freely, boosting connectivity while making the system easier to scale.
