Meta Patches Smart Glasses Flaw That Let Users Hide Recording LED
Meta is rolling out a fix after its smart glasses were found to check the recording indicator light only when filming began, allowing it to be covered afterwards.

Meta is deploying a fix for its smart glasses after a loophole was found in the way the devices handle their recording indicator light, according to Android Authority.
The glasses are designed to detect when their recording LED is blocked or tampered with and to refuse to begin filming in that case. Android Authority reported that this check was carried out only at the moment a recording was started. As a result, a user could begin filming with the light unobstructed and then cover the LED once recording was already underway, defeating the protection.
Android Authority compared the behaviour to an old PlayStation 1 workaround, in which the console verified a disc only at startup, allowing a legitimate disc to be swapped out afterwards.
