Microsoft Confirms Windows 11 Update KB5120998 Disrupts Mouse Cursor Settings
Microsoft says its optional Windows 11 update KB5120998 is resetting custom mouse cursor personalization settings after installation.

Microsoft has acknowledged that a recent optional Windows 11 update is interfering with mouse cursor settings on affected systems, according to TechPowerUp.
The company updated its release health notes to state that mouse cursor personalization settings are being changed or reverted to certain standard settings following installation of the update, identified as KB5120998, and later updates. TechPowerUp reported that the update was released on August 27, 2026.
Alongside the cursor issue, the update introduced several changes, including a movable taskbar and a resizable Start menu. However, TechPowerUp reported that it also appears to reset custom cursors to an oversized default, with the color and size in some cases failing to persist after users attempt to change them. Some users additionally reported wallpaper problems.
