Spotify says it has stripped more than 50 million tracks it describes as AI "slop" and spam from its recommendations over the past year, according to reports from Engadget and Android Authority.
According to Android Authority, the company also claims it has fully removed over 75 million spam tracks from the platform. The 50 million figure, however, applies specifically to recommendations. Engadget notes that while those tracks were pulled from recommendations, they have not necessarily been erased entirely.
Spotify also plans to make its Artist Profile Protection tool available to all artists by the end of the year, Android Authority reported.
The spread of AI-generated music has become a recurring issue across streaming services, with such tracks turning up in user recommendations. Android Authority noted that YouTube Music recently added AI labels to flag this kind of content, while Spotify has focused on removing the tracks from recommendations.
