Strategy, the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, reported a net loss of $8.2 billion for the second quarter of 2026, according to BitKE and CoinDesk. The company attributed the loss to a drop in bitcoin's price during the April-June period, which triggered a markdown in the value of its digital asset holdings.
The loss was almost entirely driven by an $8.32 billion unrealized markdown on the company's bitcoin, reflecting weaker prices over the quarter. Under accounting rules adopted in 2025, companies are required to value digital assets at market prices each reporting period, making earnings more sensitive to bitcoin price movements.
