AI-Assisted Rewrites in Rust Speed Up Bun and Copilot Runtime Projects

Two separate software projects have used AI-assisted methods to move code to Rust, according to reports from InfoQ and DevClass.
Bun, the JavaScript and TypeScript runtime, bundler and package manager, has been rewritten from Zig to Rust, InfoQ reported. Bun creator Jarred Sumner announced the change, which aims to remove recurring memory safety vulnerabilities by relying on Rust's borrow checker. According to InfoQ, the AI-assisted effort covered 535,000 lines of code and eliminated numerous memory leaks. The work was completed in four months rather than the one year originally estimated.
