Electric vehicle sales climbed sharply in two of Europe's largest car markets in October, with battery-electric models outselling combustion vehicles in both Germany and the United Kingdom.
In Germany, battery-electric cars reached a record 37% share of the new car market, according to data from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), the country's federal motor vehicle authority, as reported by Electrek. Registrations totaled 94,086 BEVs, a rise of 79.5% from 52,425 units a year earlier. For the second consecutive month, German buyers registered more fully electric cars than gasoline and diesel cars combined. With two months remaining in the year, Germany has already exceeded the auto industry's EV forecast for all of 2026.
In the United Kingdom, fully electric cars outsold both gasoline and hybrid models in October, according to InsideEVs. UK EV registrations rose 54% compared with the same month a year earlier, with electric vehicles accounting for close to a third of total sales.
