
Airtel Money's $7bn London IPO Leaves Out Nigerian Fintech Arm
Airtel Money will list in London without SmartCash after a Nigerian central bank directive forced a stake transfer completed for $3 million.

Airtel Money plans to list on the London Stock Exchange on October 14 without its Nigerian fintech operations, according to the company's IPO prospectus as reported by TechCabal.
A directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria required the mobile money business to hand its 25% stake in SmartCash, the vehicle through which Airtel runs its Nigerian fintech activity, back to Airtel Networks Limited, the group's Nigerian telecom subsidiary. The transfer was completed for $3 million. As a result, the Nigerian unit will not be part of the fintech company that investors are acquiring at the listing.
