
Anchorage Digital Cuts 17% of Workforce Amid Crypto Market Downturn
The federally chartered U.S. crypto custody bank has reduced its headcount again, even as it expands its institutional and stablecoin operations.

Anchorage Digital, the federally chartered U.S. digital-asset bank and crypto custodian, has reduced its workforce by 17% as a prolonged slump in cryptocurrency markets weighs on the industry.
Chief Executive Nathan McCauley notified staff of the cuts this week, according to The Information, which cited people familiar with the matter and was referenced by BitKE and Cointelegraph. Anchorage reported roughly 400 employees globally as of February 2026, which would place the reduction at about 68 positions if headcount had stayed at that level.
The company previously carried out a comparable reduction about four years ago, when it laid off 20% of its staff despite raising $350 million in Series D funding in 2021. At that time, it was the only federally chartered crypto bank in the United States.
