Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 Brings New Features but Also Home Screen Bugs

Android Authority cited a Pixel 9 Pro user replying to a Reddit thread who said their home screen "blinks" when leaving an app after installing the update, and that repeating the action sometimes made the wallpaper disappear. According to the outlet, some affected users resolved certain issues with a factory reset, while others fixed problems by toggling Android's private space on and off.

QPR2 is a Quarterly Platform Release, one of the ways Google updates Android between major versions. TechCabal reported that Android 17 became stable in June 2026, and that Google planned three follow-up releases: QPR1, expected stable in September 2026; QPR2, expected in December 2026 alongside that month's Pixel Feature Drop; and QPR3, expected in early 2027. As of August 17, 2026, Beta 3 was the newest version available, with no Beta 4 shipped yet.

Apple has outlined Reference Image, a camera feature that cryptographically signs pixel data at capture. Developers have questioned what the approach actually proves.
