A substantial quarterly options settlement is scheduled for Friday, covering both bitcoin and ether, according to reporting from CoinDesk and Decrypt.
CoinDesk reported that nearly $18 billion in combined bitcoin and ether options are due to expire, an event that could influence dealer hedging activity and short-term price volatility. It described the bitcoin portion of the settlement at around $16 billion and characterised the book as call-heavy.
Decrypt put the value of expiring bitcoin options at $15.6 billion. Citing strike-by-strike data from the Deribit exchange, it noted that the book was weighted toward call positions, with one particular price level attracting hedging pressure from both sides of the market.
The two outlets present slightly different figures for the bitcoin component of the expiry, with CoinDesk citing roughly $16 billion and Decrypt citing $15.6 billion.
