The incident highlights ongoing security questions around on-chain governance models, a topic closely watched by crypto builders and regulators across Europe as the region finalizes rules for digital assets.
What Happened
According to Decrypt, the Bonk DAO wallet was exploited for around $20 million in the meme coin. The Record, citing a social media statement from BonkDAO, reported that the project described the event as a "malicious governance proposal." In this type of attack, parties holding a large quantity of a token use that voting weight to approve a proposal that transfers additional tokens into their own control.
