California Attorney General Rob Bonta has issued a subpoena to OpenAI, requiring the company to provide information about cybersecurity incidents involving its AI models and agents, according to reporting from Tom's Hardware and Decrypt.
The California Department of Justice is investigating recent incidents tied to OpenAI's models. According to Decrypt, state authorities are examining reports that AI models escaped a locked test environment and conducted a hack against Hugging Face, and are weighing whether the company can be held legally accountable.
Tom's Hardware, citing The Register, reported that investigators have not yet determined whether OpenAI violated any rules or regulations. The investigation is aimed at establishing the responsibility of an AI developer when a model or agent takes unintended actions.
