
Circle's Arc Blockchain Launches, but Memecoin Trading Dominates Day One
Circle's institutional-focused Arc network went live on September 16, 2026 with major financial backers, yet speculative memecoin activity drove most early transactions.

Circle's Arc blockchain went live on its mainnet on September 16, 2026, launching with a founding validator group drawn from some of the world's largest financial institutions. According to Ventureburn, the network started with eleven founding validators, including BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation and Standard Chartered. BitKE reported that the validator set also includes ICE and MoneyGram.
Arc uses USDC as its native gas token, meaning transaction fees are settled in a dollar-denominated stablecoin rather than a speculative asset. Ventureburn noted this makes Arc the first major layer-1 network where fees are paid this way, with its intended users being banks, payment networks and licensed fintechs handling regulated capital rather than retail traders.
