Coinbase has obtained a UK investment services authorization that clears the way for the exchange to broaden its offering beyond cryptocurrencies, according to reporting from Cointelegraph and CoinDesk. The move signals continued expansion by a major digital-asset platform into one of Europe's most closely watched financial markets, a development with implications for how regulated firms bridge traditional and crypto trading across the region.
What the License Permits
According to Cointelegraph, the authorization will enable institutional and advanced traders to access derivatives, while retail customers will gain the ability to trade equities. CoinDesk reported similar details, noting that the license lets institutional traders access perpetual futures and initially gives UK retail customers the option to trade equities.
