
Community Bank Group Sues U.S. Regulator Over Crypto Trust Charters

A trade group representing U.S. community banks has filed suit against the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), alleging that the regulator went beyond its legal authority by permitting cryptocurrency companies to secure national trust bank charters.
The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA), whose members typically hold less than $10 billion in assets, lodged the case in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The group is seeking to strike down an OCC rule and accompanying guidance that ease the path for crypto firms to apply for national trust charters, according to BitKE and CoinDesk.
