The European Commission has released a draft of the proposed EU Kids Act, a legislative package aimed at limiting how children access certain online services, according to reporting from GamesIndustry.biz and Engadget.
The measures drawing the most attention target social networks and video sharing platforms. As set out in the draft, these include a ban on access for children under 13 and restrictions for those under 15. Engadget described the proposal as the most far-reaching attempt yet to limit children's use of social media.
GamesIndustry.biz reported that, beyond those headline provisions, some parts of the draft would also apply to online games. If the legislation is approved, the rules would cover all online games sold within EU territory and would place significant limits on features commonly found in such games.
