The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has said it intends to assess the operational resilience and governance arrangements of crypto custodians operating in Europe, according to Finextra Research. The move signals continued regulatory attention on the firms responsible for safeguarding digital assets on behalf of investors across the region.
What ESMA Is Examining
As Europe's capital markets regulator, ESMA plays a central role in overseeing the bloc's financial infrastructure. Finextra reported that the authority plans to examine two areas in particular: the operational resilience of crypto custodians and their governance frameworks.
