The move signals continued regulatory attention on the firms responsible for safeguarding digital assets on behalf of investors across the region.

As Europe's capital markets regulator, ESMA plays a central role in overseeing the bloc's financial infrastructure. Finextra reported that the authority plans to examine two areas in particular: the operational resilience of crypto custodians and their governance frameworks.
