
Ethereum Researcher Urges Crypto Holders to Prepare for Possible AI Attack on Wallets
Justin Drake of the Ethereum Foundation has called on holders to begin a calm, controlled shift of funds to fresh addresses, warning AI could break crypto signatures before quantum computers do.

Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, has called on the cryptocurrency industry to start preparing for the possibility that a breakthrough in artificial intelligence could undermine the cryptography protecting major digital assets. According to BitKE, Drake warned that a worst-case scenario could arrive in months rather than years.
Drake framed the preparation as a move toward what he described as "bunker mode". His recommendation is a controlled, gradual migration of assets to fresh addresses whose public keys remain hidden behind a hash, meaning addresses that have never signed a transaction. He suggested that large and sophisticated holders move the bulk of their funds first, and that when a protected address is used to sign, the remaining balance should be moved again to a new address, which can be generated from the same seed phrase.
