South Africa's First National Bank (FNB) has partnered with the local cryptocurrency platform VALR to let customers trade digital assets within the bank's app, according to BitKE.
Under the arrangement, customers can trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and USDT. BitKE reported that the service offers 24/7 trading, with purchases funded from FNB accounts through existing share-investment products. The digital assets will stay ring-fenced within FNB's infrastructure, meaning customers cannot move them to external wallets.
BitKE reported that the setup gives FNB greater control over custody, security, and compliance, while letting customers access crypto through an existing banking relationship rather than a separate exchange. FNB said it intends to broaden the selection of cryptocurrencies offered and add educational resources on the risks of investing in digital assets.
