Global advisory ties North Korean WaterPlum group to 30,000 hacked devices
A joint law enforcement advisory says the WaterPlum group compromised at least 30,000 devices worldwide and moved more than $10.7 million in stolen cryptocurrency to North Korea.

Law enforcement agencies across several countries have issued a joint advisory warning about a North Korean hacking operation known as WaterPlum, which they say infected devices on a global scale.
According to BleepingComputer, the advisory states that WaterPlum compromised at least 30,000 devices worldwide between December 2025 and July 2026. During that period, the group is said to have transferred more than $10.7 million in stolen cryptocurrency to North Korea.
The Record reported that the advisory was produced by the FBI and the Defense Department in partnership with Japan's National Police Agency and law enforcement agencies in Australia and Germany. It described WaterPlum as a group of cyber actors accused of stealing cryptocurrency from job applicants by impersonating artificial intelligence or blockchain companies.
