Northwestern University's New Ryan Field opened on Oct. 2, with the Wildcats marking the debut with a win over Penn State, according to Sports Video Group.
The $875 million venue seats 35,000 and features 32 million LED pixels, a dedicated in-venue control room, and infrastructure designed to be upgraded over time, as reported by Sports Video Group.
The stadium's opening was anchored by a team entrance set to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck." The sequence was developed under the creative direction of television producer Jesse Collins and involved weeks of coordination with FOX Sports.
According to Sports Video Group, the control room had originally been scheduled for completion in July but remained a work in progress as the opening approached. New Ryan Field Director of Technology Luke Roberson told Sports Video Group that his crew was still pulling switches out of the production network two days before the debut, following months of equipment specification work, construction challenges, and last-minute troubleshooting.
