Microsoft Issues Emergency Windows 11 Fix After September 2026 Update Bugs
An out-of-band update targets Remote Desktop, audio, and Hyper-V problems tied to Windows 11's latest patch, while reports point to crashes on AMD graphics systems.

Microsoft has released an emergency, out-of-band Windows update to address problems introduced by its September 2026 patch, according to reporting from Tom's Hardware and BleepingComputer.
The September 2026 update, which shipped on the second Tuesday of the month, delivered new features alongside fixes for close to 1,000 security flaws, Tom's Hardware reported. Among the additions in the 25H2 release are a movable taskbar with an option to reduce its height on compact displays, multiple configurable Start menu layouts with toggles for individual sections, a reworked Windows Search that can be limited to local results, and File Explorer size indicators shown in KB, MB, and GB.
The update also introduced several regressions. BleepingComputer reported that the emergency fixes address Remote Desktop Services failures caused by the month's security updates, along with Hyper-V and USB audio issues on some Windows versions. Microsoft said it had corrected an issue in which Remote Desktop Services could become unstable, leading to connection and sign-in failures, according to Tom's Hardware. The company also acknowledged a problem causing audio output and microphone input to stop working.
