Lloyds Banking Group has released findings from its annual Financial Institutions Sentiment Survey indicating that a majority of senior leaders at the UK's largest financial firms anticipate tokenisation will transform the industry.
According to the survey, 71% of senior decision-makers expect tokenisation to reshape the future of financial services. The research drew on responses from 100 senior executives working across banks, insurers, financial sponsors, and asset and wealth managers.
Tokenisation refers to representing assets such as cash, bonds, and funds digitally on-chain, which can support quicker settlement, automated transactions, and more efficient handling of collateral and liquidity. The survey identified faster payments and settlement as the leading perceived benefit, cited by 60% of respondents, followed by collateral and liquidity management at 41%. Lloyds said such efficiencies could free up capital and liquidity currently tied up in financial transactions.
