
NFL Backs States in Supreme Court Fight Over Sports Prediction Markets

The National Football League has entered a legal dispute over prediction markets, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to address whether individual states may regulate sports-related contracts traded on these platforms.
According to Decrypt, the NFL pointed to a split among federal appeals courts on the question and asked the court to resolve it. The league's position is that sports contracts offered through prediction markets amount to gambling rather than federally regulated swaps, a distinction that affects which authorities have oversight.
CoinDesk reported that in opposing federal oversight of these markets, the NFL has aligned itself with states, former Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler, and one of the authors of the law at the center of the dispute.
