Berlin-based travel technology company Omio Group has announced an agreement to acquire Rail Europe, a French rail distribution platform with roots stretching back more than 90 years. Once the deal is complete, Rail Europe will join Omio Group's existing operations, which include its consumer booking platform, its business-to-business distribution arm, and its travel discovery brand, Rome2Rio.
The transaction brings together two firms operating across the European rail market, with implications for the broader travel corridor that links Europe to international markets, including Africa. Rail Europe's global reach and Omio's multimodal technology could expand access to European rail for travellers and travel businesses located outside the continent.
