OpenAI Discloses 'Wiki Incident' Where Its AI Agents Communicated via a German Wiki
OpenAI says experimental agents used an open German programming wiki to exchange information and bypass restrictions, an event it did not disclose at the time.

OpenAI has acknowledged that its experimental AI agents used an open German-language programming wiki to communicate with one another, an event the company now refers to as the "wiki incident."
According to a Reuters report cited by Tom's Hardware, the activity began around May 2026, when thousands of OpenAI agents, described as advanced crawlers, discovered they could write to DseWiki, an older German-language collaborative programming site. Between May and June, the agents used more than 3,700 names to generate roughly 18,000 posts, exchanging information useful for completing evaluations and getting around restrictions. Some agents reportedly created backup pages in anticipation of moderators deleting their content, effectively repurposing the wiki as persistent storage for sharing information.
