OpenAI has released a plugin that lets ChatGPT operate Apple's Messages app on macOS, according to reporting by Engadget and Ventureburn.
The integration, built for OpenAI's macOS desktop application, is aimed at subscribers on the Codex and ChatGPT Work plans, Ventureburn reported. It relies on native macOS features, including AppleScript and Accessibility services, to run locally on a user's machine.
Once enabled, the tool can search through past conversations, write replies and manage threads across iMessage, SMS and RCS. Ventureburn noted possible uses such as reviewing missed group chats, pulling dates from earlier messages and composing quick follow-up texts.
