
Russia's Finance Ministry Pays Staff Wages in Digital Rubles for First Time
The Finance Ministry says some employees received salaries in the central bank digital currency from October 1, 2026, a voluntary step that moves the digital ruble into government payroll.

Russia's Finance Ministry has for the first time paid some of its employees their salaries in digital rubles, extending the country's central bank digital currency (CBDC) into government payroll.
According to the ministry, the salary payments started on October 1, 2026, and were voluntary. Employees who chose to take part were required to open digital ruble accounts on the Bank of Russia's platform. The ministry did not say how many employees received wages in the digital currency or the total value involved, as reported by BitKE.
