Samsung has made an upgraded version of its sleep apnea detection feature available in the United States, extending it to the Galaxy Ring and the Galaxy Watch9. The company says the Galaxy Ring is the first smart ring to carry an FDA-cleared, over-the-counter feature for detecting the risk of sleep apnea.
The upgraded feature received FDA clearance in the US in July, according to GSMArena, which also reported that Samsung recently announced approval in Korea. The company said today that the new version is now available to US users.
The original version of the feature was granted De Novo authorization by the FDA in February 2024. That earlier version could indicate whether signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea were present. Engadget reported that the Galaxy Ring now offers the more advanced detection following the July FDA approval.
