Singapore police have reported that at least two cases involving tampered Ledger hardware wallets have resulted in losses of about S$3.5 million (approximately $2.7 million) since September 10, according to BitKE and Cointelegraph.
Preliminary investigations found that some Ledger devices bought from local retail outlets contained malicious hardware components able to capture users' private keys or recovery phrases. According to the reporting, this could let attackers reach the wallets and move cryptocurrency without the owner's authorization.
Cointelegraph reported that the first cases surfaced as early as September 10, nearly a month before the broader incident was made public.
