Two London-based health technology companies have each announced Series B funding rounds aimed at scaling their respective products across regulated healthcare markets.
Scarlet, a certification body for AI and software medical devices, said it raised $50 million in a round led by Headline. New investor Notion Capital took part, alongside existing backers Atomico, Creandum, Kindred Capital, and Entrepreneurs First. Nancy Xiao Mclaughlin, a Partner at Headline, is joining Scarlet's board.
Scarlet is a government-designated certification body. According to the company, among the roughly 52 organisations designated under the EU Medical Device Regulation, it is the only one that specialises in software and AI. The company holds designations from the EU, the UK's MHRA, and the US FDA, where it is recognised as a Third Party Review Organisation. Scarlet was founded by James Dewar and Jamie Cox in London in 2021, after the pair worked on AI medical devices at Babylon Health. Customers upload technical documentation to its AI-enabled platform, where qualified reviewers assess submissions against relevant regulations before issuing certificates.
