British lawmakers are considering whether to permanently prohibit political donations made in cryptocurrency, a debate that could shape how digital assets intersect with electoral finance across Europe. The move follows scrutiny of contributions connected to Reform UK and its leader, Nigel Farage.
What lawmakers are proposing
According to Decrypt, members of the Labour Party have tabled amendments intended to convert the existing temporary moratorium on crypto donations into a permanent measure. Cointelegraph reported that Labour lawmakers first proposed a full moratorium in March, and that some now want that restriction made permanent.
