A wallet controlled by the US government shifted roughly $1 billion worth of Bitcoin linked to the Bitfinex hack, according to on-chain data cited by several crypto outlets.
The transaction involved 12,267 BTC, which CoinDesk and Decrypt reported was sent to new, unlabeled addresses rather than to a cryptocurrency exchange, citing data from the analytics firm Arkham. Because the funds did not move to a trading venue, the transfer gave no direct indication that the government intended to sell the holdings.
Blockchain analysts identified the originating wallet as one tied to the recovery of funds from the Bitfinex breach, according to Cointelegraph.
The movement followed earlier transfers of seized Bitcoin. CoinDesk noted that the $1 billion transaction came a day after $383 million in Bitcoin reached Coinbase Prime, while Cointelegraph referenced $770 million in prior transfers.
