Volvo's battery-electric heavy trucks have entered the virtual highways of American Truck Simulator, marking the first time an electric semi has appeared in the long-running over-the-road driving game, according to a report by Electrek.
What Changed in the Game
Players of American Truck Simulator can now operate the Volvo VNL and VNR Electric models within the game, Electrek reported. The addition is notable because it represents the debut of a fully electric truck in a title that has historically centered on diesel-powered rigs. The move gives the simulator's user base a way to experience the cab layout and operation of Volvo's electric commercial vehicles in a digital environment.
The VNL and VNR are Volvo's production heavy-duty models offered in North America. The VNL is positioned for long-haul routes, while the VNR is generally aimed at regional and shorter-distance hauling. Their electric variants are part of the broader push by commercial vehicle manufacturers to offer zero-tailpipe-emission options for freight transport.
