World's Edge, the studio behind the Age of Empires franchise, has been affected by layoffs following its transition to Activision, according to reporting from GamesIndustry.biz and TechPowerUp. Both outlets say that just under half of the studio's employees were let go.
The cuts form part of the latest round of layoffs tied to Xbox's ongoing restructuring. According to TechPowerUp, several Xbox studios have been merged into or placed under other teams, with World's Edge moved under Activision alongside the Halo franchise.
The figure describing the scale of the cuts at World's Edge was posted by a ResetEra user identified as Tempus Chaoti, TechPowerUp reported. Adam Isgreen, described as the now-former studio creative director at World's Edge, shared a message on LinkedIn confirming the layoffs. Andrew Martz, a senior software engineer at the studio, also confirmed the cuts and said the restructuring had led to the cancellation of the studio's next project, according to TechPowerUp.
