Alrony is selling a portable external CD/DVD drive that bundles several extra connectivity features into a single unit, currently listed at $26.99 on Amazon, down from $29.99, according to Tom's Hardware.
The device reads and writes CDs at speeds up to 24X and handles DVDs at up to 8X. Beyond optical media, it functions as a USB hub and a SATA-to-USB adapter, with a 2.5-inch SATA slot that accepts either a hard drive or an SSD.
Connectivity includes a full-size SD card slot, a microSD slot, two USB-A ports and a USB-C port. Tom's Hardware reported that the USB-A and USB-C connections are specified as USB 3.0 with transfer speeds of 5 Gbps.
According to the listing cited by Tom's Hardware, the drive is compatible with Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10, along with a range of Linux and macOS systems. It is described as a plug-and-play device that does not require driver installation.
