AMD Ryzen 5 5500F and 7500 Reach US Retail at $20 Over MSRP

AMD's Ryzen 5 5500F and Ryzen 5 7500 processors have gone on sale in the United States roughly two weeks after they were announced, but both are priced above AMD's suggested figures, according to reports from TechPowerUp and Tom's Hardware.

On Amazon, the Ryzen 5 5500F is listed at $120 and the Ryzen 5 7500 at $210. Each is $20 higher than AMD's stated MSRP of $99 and $189, respectively. TechPowerUp noted that the 5500F has been seen fluctuating between $118 and $125. Both listings are sold directly by Amazon rather than by third-party sellers, so the markup does not appear to stem from resellers. TechPowerUp reported that Amazon was the only US retailer stocking either chip at the time of writing, with Micro Center and Newegg showing no listings.

The Ryzen 5 5500F is a 6-core, 12-thread Zen 3 part based on the Vermeer die, differing from the older $90 Ryzen 5 5500, which uses the Cezanne die. Compared with the 5500, the 5500F adds PCIe 4.0 support (versus PCIe 3.0) and a higher 4.4 GHz boost clock (versus 4.2 GHz). Tom's Hardware reported that these changes allow roughly 5% to 10% higher gaming performance and said it would test the chip in its lab.
