MTN Group has obtained shareholder approval to buy out the remaining shares in IHS Holding Limited, moving it closer to full control of the telecommunications tower company, according to TechCabal.
IHS shareholders endorsed the transaction at an Extraordinary General Meeting on August 4, 2026, meeting the two-thirds majority required for the special resolution. itweb.co.za also reported that shareholders of the infrastructure firm approved the proposed acquisition at the meeting.
Under the merger, a temporary entity created by MTN — referred to as a Sub-Merger Co — will combine with IHS and cease to exist. IHS Holding Limited will remain the surviving legal entity and become a wholly-owned subsidiary of MTN. Once the deal is finalised, IHS will be removed from the New York Stock Exchange, ending its run as a publicly listed company.
