Microsoft 365 to Cut Shared OneDrive Storage from 6 TB to 2 TB in 2027
Microsoft is moving its Family, Premium, and Pro plans from 1 TB per user to a shared 2 TB pool, with the change taking effect on renewals after May 2, 2027.

Microsoft is changing how cloud storage is allocated across its Microsoft 365 subscriptions that support multiple users. Under the current setup, a Family or Premium plan lets a buyer share the subscription with up to five additional people, giving each of the six members their own 1 TB of OneDrive storage, for a combined total of 6 TB.
The company is replacing that per-user allocation with a single shared pool of 2 TB spread across all members. According to Tom's Hardware, the shift applies to the Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, and Pro plans, and means a subscription shared among six people sees its total capacity reduced by roughly two-thirds.
Tom's Hardware reports that the change will take effect on subscription renewals after May 2, 2027, unless subscribers switch plans earlier. Some affected accounts may receive bonus storage when they move to the shared model, though Microsoft did not specify eligibility requirements.
