Microsoft Updates Entry-Level Surface Laptop and Surface Pro With Snapdragon X2 Plus

Microsoft has refreshed its lower-end Surface computers, moving the 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro to Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. The announcement, made on Microsoft's blog to coincide with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit, was reported by Tom's Hardware and TechPowerUp.

Both devices use a 6-core Snapdragon X2 Plus with an 80 TOPS NPU, replacing the first-generation Snapdragon X Plus. They ship with 16-24GB of LPDDR5x memory and 256GB or 512GB of UFS storage, paired with a Qualcomm Adreno GPU. The Surface Laptop has a 13-inch, 1920 x 1280 display at 60 Hz, while the Surface Pro carries a 12-inch, 2196 x 1464 touch panel running up to 90 Hz (60 Hz by default). Both reach a maximum of 500 nits.

Microsoft says the new systems are 17% faster in Microsoft Office workloads, up to 18% more efficient on battery, offer more than 60% faster graphics, and deliver up to 95% faster AI inferencing on the NPU, all compared with the previous-generation Snapdragon X Plus. The devices also add a new black color and displays that are 25% brighter than prior generations.
