The Nigerian fintech unicorn has appointed former Branch Kenya CEO Rose Muturi to drive its strategic direction in Kenya as it deepens its East Africa expansion.

Moniepoint Inc has appointed Rose Muturi, the former chief executive of Branch Kenya, to lead its operations in Kenya, according to TechCabal. The move signals a new phase in the Nigerian fintech unicorn's push into East Africa's largest economy, coming after its acquisition of Sumac Microfinance Bank earlier this year.
Building Beyond a Regulatory Foothold
The Sumac acquisition provided Moniepoint with the licence needed to operate in the Kenyan market. According to TechCabal, the company now appears to be shifting from establishing a regulatory presence toward building an active banking business. Expanding operations in Kenya is expected to require local banking expertise, particularly as competition sharpens among traditional banks, fintech firms, and mobile money providers.
