Mount Royal University, based in Calgary, has acknowledged that its network was compromised in a cyberattack, with intruders reportedly accessing internal file storage systems. According to BleepingComputer, the institution stated that the attackers extracted data before deleting it from the affected systems.
While the incident took place in Canada, breaches at educational and research institutions carry relevance for the wider security community, including organisations across Europe that maintain academic partnerships, exchange programmes, and shared research infrastructure. Universities have increasingly become targets for threat actors seeking sensitive personal and institutional records.
