Prosecutors in Taiwan have filed charges against two businessmen accused of participating in a cyber-espionage operation linked to China, according to reporting by The Record from Recorded Future News. The case centres on allegations that a Taiwan-based company rented out accounts on the widely used LINE messaging platform to individuals described as Chinese spies.
What Prosecutors Allege
According to The Record, authorities say the company at the heart of the case was leasing LINE accounts to operatives connected to Chinese intelligence activity. Two men have been charged in connection with the alleged scheme. The reporting frames the matter as an espionage case in which a legitimate commercial channel — messaging accounts on a mainstream consumer app — was allegedly repurposed to support foreign intelligence work.
