New Tool NvpwrControl Unlocks Higher Power Limits on Nvidia RTX 50-Series Laptops

A developer has published an experimental tool called NvpwrControl that raises the power limits of Nvidia's RTX 50-series laptop GPUs, potentially unlocking additional performance from chips that are normally power constrained.
Gaming laptop GPUs are typically capped at lower power targets than their desktop equivalents, which can result in notable performance gaps, particularly on higher-end parts. According to TechPowerUp, NvpwrControl works by tapping into power policies that are baked into the hardware but not exposed to consumers. The developer said they identified the method by reverse-engineering Nvidia's power management path.
The tool supports the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090 mobile GPUs. TechPowerUp reported that 5070 Ti GPUs rated at 140W can be pushed to a 180W target, and that the 5070 Ti currently has the most complete support. Support for the RTX 5080 and 5090 is described as experimental, with both reportedly able to reach up to 225W.
